Mattgoe Roast
02/14/04

February’s MLMUG Member-of-the-month is quite unique. Of course, all are unique in their own special way. As you all know, I usually end my emails with a quote, often vaguely related to the subject. Since this is an introduction, I am going to begin with a quote instead, related to uniqueness:

"A wonderful realization will be the day you realize that you are unique in all the world. There is nothing that is an accident. You are a special combination for a purpose; -- and don't let them tell you otherwise, even if they tell you that purpose is an illusion. (Live an illusion if you have to). You are that combination so that you can do what is essential for you to do. Don't ever believe that you have nothing to contribute. The world is an incredible unfulfilled tapestry. And only you can fulfill that tiny space that is yours." - Leo Buscaglia [buss-CAG-li-ah]

How is it unique? First of all, February is the shortest month. Somehow, that sounds appropriate. OTOH, it’s a leap year February! Once every 4 years is pretty unique, I think.

You remember when Maria convinced Randy Zeitman to be a MoM (MoM #5), she called him the “Invisible member”, because he had (up until then) attended so few meetings. But then later, he was the program presenter at a meeting. Matt OTOH, is really invisible: two meetings in eight years. And he only came today so we could roast him! Heh, heh.

This month’s MoM is also unique in that it does not just settle for the standard run-of-the-mill photo. Why would a cartoonist settle for a mere photo when he could draw his own picture? Matt’s Valentine, Lynne, says it doesn’t look like him at all. Matt’s daughter Rachel thought his first draft looked like a monkey. I think it’s a pretty good likeness, don’t you? A caricature is supposed to exaggerate features; that’s hard to do with such a handsome guy.

The design phase of all Moegoes is a collaborative effort; Always his people get with my people, develop a storyboard, and go from there. So it was with the first-ever Mattgoe; a collaborative effort. The idea of the hand drawing himself was my idea (actually, I stole and passed it on.) The improper grasping of the pencil in the ‘toon is Matt’s own replication. And so on and so forth...

So, please show Matt we appreciate his talent, and we’d like him to start showing up more than once every 8 years!
