FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

Q: Who can attend?

You can attend MacDinner v9!

  • even if you are not a user group member
  • even if you have never used a computer, much less a Macintosh.

You'll probably enjoy yourself more if you use a Mac and belong to a Mac Users Group (or are thinking of joining one) but it's not a prerequisite.

Q: Can I bring a guest?

Yes. Seating cap is set at 75. Once capacity is reached, we will stop taking reservations and begin a wait list. REMEMBER, an inquiry is NOT a reservation. A reservation can only be secured by payment before September 18.

Q: How much will the evening cost me?

The $25 reservation fee, per diner, includes food, beverage and tax. There are NO additional charges. Parking is free. There may be some vendors offering additional non-food items for sale at EXTRA special prices!

Q: How do I make a reservation?

Send your check or money order for $25 per diner to:

MLMUG MacDinner v9
POB 1374
Southeastern, PA 19399

Your reservation request and money must arrive by Monday, September 18 to ensure processing. If we reach capacity before the 18th, reservation requests will be accepted in order of the postmarks on the envelopes. Those missing the cap will be placed on a wait list.

Q: Tell me more about the wait list?

If needed, there will be a wait list. If someone cancels before the 18th, and there is, in fact, a wait list, we will refund their money and accept the reservation(s) of those on the wait list, in the order of receipt. (see above) You will be notified if you missed the cap and are on the wait list; your payment will not be processed. If there is a cancellation and you are moved from wait, to confirmed, you will be notified by e-mail, or phone, and we'll process your payment at that time.

Q: Suppose I make a reservation and have to cancel?

If you cancel by 6 a.m., Monday, September 18, we will refund your money. Because this Dinner is being catered, food must be ordered and a final head count provided by the 18th. If you are uncertain you can attend you can wait until a date closer to the 21st to make your reservation, but if we have reached capacity we will not be able to accommodate you.

Q: But suppose I have an emergency and have to cancel AFTER the 18th?

We will attempt to fill your seat with someone on our wait list (if we have one). Unfortunately, we cannot offer you the security of a confirmation without SOME risk. We implore you NOT to make a reservation if you have ANY fear that you might have to cancel. You'll not be at financial risk, but you might not be able to attend.

Q: You say there is free parking. Can you tell me more?

There is abundant FREE parking in the lot immediately outside the West Wing of Paoli Memorial Hospital. The parking is NOT secured or covered, but it IS safe and well-lit.

Q: Do I need to bring anything to the Dinner other than my confirmation?

Please bring your confirmation notice; it will help us process everyone expeditiously. If you misplace your confirmation (sent by e-mail), you can reprint it. If you forget to bring your confirmation we will admit you with ID, but there is nothing else you need to bring with you.

We DO ask that you consider dressing for the evening, in Texan or Mexican garb. This is not a requirement, but those who DO dress for the occasion can expect to be rewarded in SOME WAY.

Q: What's a MacDinner like?

Each MacDinner is unique in some way; MacDinner v9 is the first Dinner which will be catered, but we have had theme Dinners before. You'll be able to socialize and meet interesting people. You'll eat, drink (non-alcoholic beverages), and laugh. You'll be entertained and informed--our guests ALWAYS have something to share with us. And because the vendors who support user groups year-round support the MacDinners, we will have vendor literature available which describes new, or interesting products, some of which we will be giving away as prizes or gifts to those deserving. YOU could take home a surprise!

Q: I see that your menu is Tex-Mex. I'm a vegetarian (or I have special needs). Can you accommodate me?

Our caterer tells us he can accommodate some requests, but not all. We apologize if we cannot meet YOUR needs (low sodium, low fat, et al.) but if you wish to have a vegetarian meal prepared for you, then you must...MUST tell us when you make your reservation. Special meal requests CANNOT be taken after the 18th, and special meal request diners cannot cancel and expect a refund after the 18th. This is a buffet, with one set price for all regardless of the selections you choose to eat.

Make your reservations and requests EARLY. Individuals who are wait listed will not be able to request special meals.

Q: I've never been to a MacDinner but it sounds like fun. I don't know anyone. Will I feel comfortable being a stranger?

You won't be a stranger for long. MacDinners are festive occasions and we've never known anyone to feel uncomfortable for more than a few minutes. Simply TELL us you are "a stranger" and we'll introduce you to someone who will take you under their wing.

Q: The Dinner begins at 7 p.m. Suppose I am late?

If you have a confirmed reservation we will hold your place ALL NIGHT, but we would appreciate you calling to let us know you will be unable to attend. If you arrive late, you will miss certain festivities and announcements but you will still be seated and fed. We will be passing out prizes throughout the evening, some based on reservations, so even if you arrive LATE, you may find a prize is waiting for you.

Q: Suppose I arrive early?

We hope many folks DO arrive early. We will begin check-in at 6 p.m. and begin admitting people promptly, 6:30 p.m. at the latest. Once inside the Potter Room you'll be able to choose your seating and mingle with other diners. If you arrive by 7 p.m. you will not miss a thing planned for the evening.

There will be no food service until after 7 p.m.

Q: Suppose I must LEAVE early; what will I miss?

Activities are planned up until 10 p.m., but not thereafter. We will vacate the premises as close to 11 p.m. as possible. If you must leave before 10 p.m. you might miss some announcements, or a last-minute surprise, but hopefully you will not miss much. If you win a prize which might be awarded after you leave we will arrange for delivery to you.
