When I first opened the packaging of the Signature Suit by case-mate, I was struck by the fragrance of fine leather, reminiscent of a luxury automobile. And what a luxury item this is! Imagine the protection of a plastic shell surrounded by supple leather, wrapping your MacBook Pro in a stylish, form-fitting case. Your laptop will be truly dressed to impress.

I tested the Sienna Red Signature Suit for the 15" MacBook Pro. The one-piece, hinged case slides on easily; instructions are included. It secures simply with translucent bands across the top and bottom of the display. The fit is snug and all of the cutouts line up perfectly to allow access to all the ports. It also slides off smoothly though after having it on for a while, I can't imagine taking it off (unless you wanted to change colors). The case also features a large cooling vent on the underside of the case but the "coolest" cutout is on the top of the case, allowing the beautiful, lighted Apple Logo to show through.

Speaking of color, the 15" signature suit is also available in Capri Green, Phantom Black, or Alpine White. The 17" MacBook Pro case is available in 3 colors, while the 13" MacBook case is available in 9 color variations. For me, the red is perfect as I love the bright color and it looks fabulous with my red Logitech mouse!

But more than just good looks, the Signature Suit from case-mate is truly a quality accessory for your Mac laptop. The case is constructed of a high-impact, molded plastic shell layered with protective foam and then covered with soft, Napa leather. According to case-mate, each case is made one-at-a-time by hand by talented craftsmen. They guarantee each case against defects in workmanship. If not fully satisfied, you can return the case within two weeks of your purchase for a full refund.

Care and cleaning of the case is the same as for most fine leather products. Surface dirt can be wiped off with a damp cloth, and minor scuffs can be rubbed out with your fingertip. Leather care solutions can be used on tougher marks.

When I first read about the signature suit, I thought it sounded interesting and looked pretty, but I really didn't see the value of a form-fitting case when I already had a travel bag for my laptop. Now that I have been using it for over a month, I'm a believer! I can take my MacBook anywhere (including out on the deck which is my new favorite work spot) and feel that it is secure against bumps and scratches when I set it down. Plus, the case gives my laptop a whole new personality - I love it! My only critique is with the translucent holding bands. While the upper one sits just below the iSight camera, the lower strap runs across the bottom of the display instead of just below it. Because it is translucent, it almost disappears when the computer is on, but I still see a thin hairline across the dock at the bottom of my display. Also, at $159.99 it is a bit pricey for an accessory item. Still, the look is great and the security and protection is top notch. If I could afford it, I'd have one in every color (but that's just me)!
