Product: Arctic Quest

URL: www.exclusivegames.com/arctic-quest-mac.html

Genre: Game

Price: Best Price $19.99

System Requirements: Mac OS X 10.3.9-10.4, PowerPC/Intel 800Mhz or above processor, 64 MB system RAM, Video RAM 32MB

Level: Beginner (for children-adults)

Rating: 4 out of 5 Stars

Pros: This is a cool game for practicing logic and improving one's agility and speed. The graphics are attractive and varied. The game is easy to learn but gets harder as you master the successive levels.

Cons: The background Russian music is annoying and doesn't fit the game, depending on your perspective. The game is easier to play with an external mouse. I used a cordless wireless notebook mouse. The game took about a minute to load on an iBook G4 with a 1.2 GHz Power PC processor, 256 MB RAM, and 32MB video RAM. The help menu is adequate, but not very extensive.

Summary: Arctic Quest is an interactive game in which you must defeat the "Snow King" who has cast a crippling frost on a tropical island. This game should be taught to children with a lesson in mind about the reverse effects of global warming in certain cases instead of the typical warming trend. It is a good game if you want to relax for a while. It is for beginners, but one can be challenged as they progress by mastering each level.

The object of the game is to pick up falling pieces of ice before they fall into the water off the tropical island which has become lifeless, except for an occasional fish and snail. You achieve them by placing ice chips in the optimal spot thereby earning bonus points. The ice must be placed in the correct animated puzzle before falling in the water.

Bonus points are also earned by shooting at an occasional flying bird. If one messes up on certain pieces of falling ice chips, there is time to retrieve the piece of ice from the water and place it on the bonfire to be burned. Once the puzzle is completed, the game moves to the next level as the ice falls faster and the puzzle is a little more challenging.

Overall Rating: I would definitely recommend this game for entertainment and fun for all ages. There are 60 puzzles to solve before reaching the Snow King's castle thus breaking the spell. I didn't reach that level, but it is reported that you get to fight the Snow King, which is the capstone: to get the island back to normal: the typical global warming.
