![]() By John Krause Background: Photo Editor's comments: This photo was taken in Prague, the capital and largest city of the Czech Republic, at 6 AM when the town square was deserted. The square's center is home to a statue of religious reformer Jan Hus, who was burned at the stake for his beliefs. The statue known as the Jan Hus Memorial was erected on July 6, 1915 to mark the 500th anniversary of his death. The church pictured is the Church of Our Lady in Front of Týn. It dates back to the 12th century. It was partially destroyed by fire in 1697 and then rebuilt to its present appearance.
