"Young Geese with Fish"
By Bob Barton

Background:
There is a double pond filled with goldfish (probably small carp) and a few larger Koi at American College in Bryn Mawr, PA. In addition to the fish, the ponds attract about a dozen geese, several ducks and a heron. The heron is impressive to watch when it dives in, grabs a fish and does the 'swallow it whole' bit. I may get lucky and be able to get a video of the action some time.

This photo was taken in May 2005 when the goose population went up by six. I have some shots when the goslings were smaller and larger. Accompanied closely by one of the parents, they were out for a swim and chow on the pond. Karen and I visit the place Sunday mornings and feed the fish some bread. When the geese are there, the fish do not get as much bread. Unfortunately there is a trend for the geese to camp out all year instead of doing the migration thing.
