"Beachface Swash"
By Mike Berman

Background:
This shot was taken at Cape May Point, NJ, in late September 2006. This beach faces west, and the sun is setting out-of-frame to the left. Virtually all my work is captured on Fuji color negative film, usually, as in this case, Fuji Superia 800 film.

After processing the film, I scan the images into Photoshop Elements with a Nikon Super Coolscan 4000ED, a dedicated film scanner. My eye told me it would like to see this image in black-and-white rather than color, so after optimizing tonal values, I changed it to grayscale and performed further optimizing.

All digital work was done on a Power Mac DP 450, running Mac OS 9.1.
